Hi! My name is Serena Wallace and I serve as Institute Event Manager on the Special Events team housed within Institute Communications. Our team of three is responsible for executing institute-wide events including Commencement, New Student Convocation, honors luncheons, Institute Address, and Georgia Tech Advisory Board to name a few.
Our office provides special event expertise through our website and the Event Coordinators’ Network. We also serve as the Commencement experts and speak with many of your students regarding their RSVP, ceremony participation, and graduation requirements.
Speaking of Commencement, the deadline for students to RSVP to Spring Commencement is Friday, March 13. They should be getting our email reminders. This is also the deadline for summer graduates who wish to participate in Spring Commencement to complete their request to participate form. Summer graduates with two classes or less remaining can apply to participate in Spring Commencement as long as we have the venue space. We’ll notify all early walkers of our decision on March 18.
Our spring ceremonies are May 1 and 2. We invite all of you to volunteer! Most staff serve as line-up coordinators in our pre-event space the hour before the ceremony starts. They pass out name cards to students and help get them in the correct marching order (we number each name card to make it simple).
