January's GTAAN guests, the Counseling Center and the CARE Center, help us to stay current with the best tools and resources that we can refer to when assisting our students on their path toward wellness.

To keep with the spirit of well-being, this month's Campus Partner Spotlight shines on the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Working in a student-facing role at Tech, you likely spend quite a lot of energy searching for ways to support your students. But, have you ever thought about the people out there who spend quite a lot of energy searching for ways to support YOU? *plot twist* That's what EAP is.

The Employee Assistance Program is accessible to all healthcare benefits-eligible employees and their families! You may have known about it, but never considered it as a helpful resource for you. I urge you to reconsider. In addition to counseling services, EAP offers a variety of helpful and practical resources easily accessible to you!

Counseling Services

Counseling can be an incredible tool in managing and/or recovering from alcohol/drugs, anxiety/stress, depression, grief and loss, relationships, parenting, transition and change, and endless other areas of life (being a human is complicated). Individuals may speak with a professional counselor by phone, and the Employee Assistance Program will provide a referral to see a local counselor at no cost.

  • Toll-free access to licensed clinical professionals, 24/7, 365 days a year
  • Up to 4 sessions per counseling issue, via video or phone

Financial Services

A 30-minute consultation with a qualified financial consultant is available to assist with a variety of financial concerns, including bankruptcy alternatives, budgeting/cash flow, credit issues, education funding, identity theft, income taxes, mortgages, and retirement planning.

Legal Services

A 30-minute phone or in-person consultation is available to help answer basic legal questions and simplify the process of obtaining legal help pertaining to adoption, bankruptcy, child custody, criminal issues, divorce, estate planning/wills, immigration, mediation, real estate, and tenant’s rights.

Family Caregiving Services

Family caregiving consultation, resources and referrals are available on a variety of family matters, including college preparation, daycare/summer camps, prenatal care, special needs, adult daycare, assisted living, in-home care, and transportation services.

All complicated things that can become less complicated if you use EAP.

Some other fun things that EAP offers:

Complimentary convenience services are available to help you make the most of your money and free time. Call to request referrals for a range of services, including car and hotel reservations, cleaning services, destination guides/tours, dining, moving and relocation services, pet care services, and home/auto repairs.

Did you read through that list and think to yourself, "Yes! That's exactly what I need help with!" Then, take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program. We tell our students to always ask for help if they ever need anything. We should remember to do the same.
